I’m back from Disneyland. It was magical. I never considered myself a Disney adult, but hey — maybe I am.
What I’m watching
This week, my buddy Bill and I recorded an episode covering the film The Legend of Billie Jean. I had never heard of this film, but it was a ton of fun. One of those ’80s films that could be lost to time. It tells the tale of a sister and brother on the run from the law. The story isn’t too deep, but keep a close look at all the clothing — you may just find your new style. Our episode about this movie will be out in just a few weeks, so stay tuned by clicking the button below.
What I’m reading
Are you familiar with the X-Men? Over the past year, I’ve been re-familiarizing myself with their comic universe. A lot has happened since the ’90s, and most of it doesn’t make any sense — and I love it. Currently Magneto is dead, and even though mutants have the power to resurrect other mutants, Magneto is one of the few who opted out of that contract. In the first issue of Resurrection of Magneto, our friend and mutant leader Storm travels into a mutant afterlife to find Magneto and bring him back to our world. Apparently he’s going to help save mutants from an overwhelming anti-mutant force that has taken up power on Earth.
What I’m playing
I’m making my way through the tactical espionage series Metal Gear on Twitch. I’ve now made it to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which is set in 1985. If you haven’t been following my journey, here’s a quick recap of the previous two storylines:
In Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the story follows Big Boss (now leading his own mercenary group, Militaires Sans Frontières) as he’s drawn into a conflict in Costa Rica. Here, he faces a new threat: a nuclear-armed AI weapon that echoes the ideals of his deceased mentor, The Boss. Big Boss ultimately prevents a nuclear catastrophe, but questions his own beliefs and legacy. This sets the stage for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Taking place in 1975, it details an operation where Big Boss infiltrates an American black site in Cuba to rescue two key characters from the previous game. The operation exposes a deeper conspiracy, leading to a devastating attack on Big Boss’s forces. This attack not only destroys his base, but also sets the tone for a tale of revenge and dark path that lies ahead, bridging the gap to the broader narrative and themes of betrayal, loss, and the consequences of war that define the series.
