What I’m listening to
Remember VH1’s Best Week Ever? Well, there’s now a great podcast that’s the spiritual successor to the TV show called (you guessed it) Best Week Ever. Hosted by Vanessa Ondi, this pod welcomes a guest each week to talk about what pop culture events are having the best and worst weeks ever. Lots of great guests have been on this pod, including me! Check it out if you’re looking to add another fun show to your listening library.
What I’m watching
Today is Saturday the 14th, which means yesterday was Friday the 13th — the perfect day to watch one of the many Jason Voorhees movies. In our household, we watched Friday the 13th Part III. The film was originally shot in 3D, which means there are lots of goofy shots of popcorn popping or large blades directed right toward the camera. The story follows a new group of youngsters heading to a small farmhouse on the other side of infamous Crystal Lake. Is this the best Friday movie? Maybe not, but it’s a short, fun watch. It’s also the movie where Jason finds his infamous hockey mask!
What I’m making
Over at Bill and Robs: An Excellent Adventure, I’ve continued my selection of Stephen King sequel movies that I feel are culturally important enough to be watched and discussed. The movies aren’t all “good,” but they cannot be lost to time. This week, we watched Pet Sematary II, an extremely odd sequel to the 1989 film. The only returning character is the fictional town of Ludlow. The movie looks lived in and is textured in a way that only 1992 can provide. Unfortunately, the movie feels more like a parody of the first film instead of its own story.
