What I’m listening to
This month, the podcast Your Kickstarter Sucks is doing their fifth installment of MIKETOBER. The month-long tribute to horror provides weekly episodes on YKS’ bonus feed, and I can’t get enough of it (and that’s not just because I was on the first episode talking about Re-Animator).
In addition to Re-Animator, they’ve covered Deep Red and Creepshow. With two more MIKETOBER episodes to go, it’s a great list of horror movies in case you have a watch party planned for Halloween.
What I’m watching
For a while in college, I got into the television series Degrassi. From the early ’80s to the early 2000s, I wanted to see the whole story. I fell off around season six of Degrassi: The Next Generation, but over the past year I’ve been finishing the entire series. I’m now on season 10, and I had no idea that at this point they shifted from 18 episodes a season to 40! I’ve got four more seasons to go. I hope I finish before 2026.
What I’m making
Pumpkin Spice Podcast is in the middle of its 2024 public season, and we’re watching The Prophecy franchise. And boy are they terrible! The first three films have Christopher Walken, who makes the films watchable. But the last two are examples of films made just to gamble that they’ll make a profit on streaming services over time. The movies aren’t great, but definitely a fascinating glance at why certain films get made.
